Marceau

Marceau (aka Marceau the Magnificent) – 2007 to 2025 – was found by his Aunt Lisa sitting on a wall in a lane in Shanghai in 2007. It was his insistent meow, a hallmark of his personality his entire life, that made Lisa notice him and save him. Since his human brother was 3 years old, Lisa thought they would make a good pair. He is named after the mime Marcel Marceau (for obvious reasons), who passed away the same week Marceau came into our lives.
Marceau was a well-traveled cat. He moved with us from Shanghai to Shenzhen in China, and then to the U.S., where he lived in Atlanta and Philadelphia. He was a natural hunter, catching a bird from the balcony of our tenth-floor apartment in Shenzhen. In his prime, he could jump straight up 3-4 feet in the air from sitting, which helped him rid our yard in Atlanta of chipmunks quickly.
In 2020, Marceau achieve his lifelong ambition of being the center of attention when his canine companion passed away and his human brother went to college. From then, he excelled in finding the best places to nap including in the attic, in the sunniest place on the sofa, and in his favorite heated bed. He was in fantastic shape for a cat of nearly 18 years when he got cancer in late 2024. Since we expected him to live to at least 25 years old, losing him at 18 has been rather devastating. He was, is, and always will be the coolest cat in the neighborhood. Rest in peace, dear friend.
